Gustav Klimt was a member of the Austrian Sezession, a pioneer of contemporary art with an irresistible decorative Jugendstil. This photo frame was based on the design Klimt made for the short side of the frieze at the Palais Stoclet in Brussels, a villa built entirely in the style of the Viena Secession.
On his honeymoon in Bohemia, Mucha painted a series of plates with the biblical theme of 'Blessed are...' (eg. the meek'). Together with his young bride he designed beautifully ornamented frames for the series.
